Just Some of What We Do

For over twenty years we have sponsored Start School Right, a program that outfits 50+ needy children in grades K-12 with book-bags and gift certificates for purchasing school supplies, clothing and/or shoes. Later in the year, we provide hats, gloves and food cards to these same children.

"BrainMinders" is the signature program of Pilot International which focuses on brain safety.  The Babylon Club performs a “BrainMinders” puppet show for children ages 3 – 6 at local nursery schools and libraries. Through the use of puppets, ways to reduce the possibility of brain injuries is presented.

Our members have visited the L.I. State Veterans Home in Stony Brook to assist with their in-house programs and to spend time with the veterans who have served our country with honor.  The above picture shows the residents enjoying the lap blankets that we provided.

 The Club has recently volunteered our services to the L.I. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to assist at their fundraisers and support their many programs helping those who are not only affected by this disease but their caregivers as well.

In the past, we have also supported Project Lifesaver International, a Public Safety Program sponsored by the Sheriff's Department of Suffolk County. Their mission is to provide state-of-the-art technology in assisting those who care for victims of Alzheimer's and other related Mental Dysfunction Disorders such as Down Syndrome, Autism, and Developmental Disorders, in order to track and locate those who wander and become lost.

For many years the Pilot Club has invited seniors in our community to a high tea.  We enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, sandwiches, scones and most importantly - friendship.  

Additionally, prior to Christmas our members visit an adult residence in Babylon to assist the residents in writing their holiday cards to their family and friends.  Following the card writing we have a Holiday party complete with refreshments and gifts for the residents.

On a regular basis for the past fifteen years, we have made over 700 colorful and kid-friendly pillowcases  as well as "HUG PILLOWS" which  reduce pain for the children in the pediatric unit of Good Samaritan Hospital.

We have also donated wheelchairs, a bladder scanner, iPads, a hydroponic garden and an interactive TV to the Brain Trauma Unit of Southside Hospital.
